Eileen M. Lavey, 89, Sandusky, peacefully died Saturday, July 6, 2019 in Providence Care Center, Sandusky, after an extended illness.
She was born June 2, 1930 in Sandusky, the daughter of John and Catherine (Federkiel) Fischer.
She graduated from Sandusky High School, where she was secretary of her class. She attended Bowling Green State University and was employed at Miller & Sass, Philco, and various doctors' offices in the area.
Eileen was a lifelong member of St. Stephen UCC, where she married her husband, Herbert, on her birthday. She also taught Sunday School and participated in the choir there for many years. She was a swim coach at the YMCA, and coached and coordinated a swimming league at Briarcrest Swim Club. She was a member of the Sandusky Chorale Society, and the auxiliaries of the American Legion, VFW, AMVETS, and the IAB Club. She loved the Indians, Buckeyes, and Browns, playing cards with family, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Gilchrist, Sandusky; sons, Patrick Lavey, Michigan, and Todd (Linda Defino) Lavey, Sandusky; grandchildren, Hanna (Matt) Castle, Marley Gilchrist, Miranda (Francisco) Miyares, Mackenzie Lavey, Cassidy Lavey, Patrick Lavey, Jr., Ashlee (Tom) Lavey Roberts, and Jacob (Lindsey) Lavey; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mila, Gracie, Liam and Layla; sisters, Mary Ann Taylor, Susan (Bill) Patterson and Christine Berkey; brothers, Ted, James (Connie) and Jack Fischer.
In addition to her husband and parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Brad Gilchrist; sister, Virginia Sherwood; sister-in-law, Toni Fischer; and brothers-in-law, Jack Sherwood, Gene Taylor and Kenny Berkey.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of memorial services at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019 in Sandusky Church of God, 1018 W. Bogart Rd., Sandusky. Pastor Harvey Studer will officiate. Burial will be in Peak's Cemetery, Berlin Heights.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the following: Sandusky Church of God, St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, Erie County Senior Center, or to the Brad Gilchrist Scholarship Fund, via Sandusky Board of Education.
