Willie Gene "Bud" Marshall, 82, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Stein Hospice Care Center, while holding his loving wife's hand.
Willie was affectionately known and loved as "Bud" by family and friends.
He was born on May 3, 1937 and was the fourth of eight children born to the late Coleman Lee and Bertha (Hyatt) Marshall in Cartersville, GA.
After the passing of his father, he felt it was his responsibility to take care of his mother and siblings since he was the oldest son. He dropped out of school in the 8th grade to work in the fields of GA as a cotton picker. His older sister, Bernice "Big Irby", sent for him to come to Sandusky in 1954 at the age of 17 to embark upon a better life. Eventually, he was able to save enough money to relocate his mother and remaining four siblings to Sandusky. He was formerly employed by Waldock Packing Company until their closing which inspired him to establish his own business, Marshall Hauling.
At the age of 33, he met the love of his life Patricia (Keys) Marshall. After a 12-year courtship, they decided to get married on July 17, 1982. He was a loyal member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church and participated in the Men's Choir which he truly enjoyed. He loved his pastors, Dr. Scottie (Holly) Aaron and Reverend Joseph Strong.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years Patricia (Keys) Marshall; eight sons, Carlen, Willie, Latham, Joe, Jonathan, Willie, Larry and Antonio; five daughters, Vera, Andrea, Lisa, LaTonia and Tamara; he also played an active role in his children's siblings lives (13); 29 grandchildren,19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; brother, Coleman "Fish" (Anita) Marshall; brother-in-laws, Rev. Samuel Mickles, Marion Shephard and Eddie "Adel" Brown; special nieces, Tonya (James) Turner and Kristina Marshall; special friends, Dale Young, Lois Young, Tondra (Clifton) Frisby, May Fenderson, Castro Donald, Bobby Lawton and Bruce Spring; special caregiver, Stan Tomsey and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brooks Hampton; six sisters, Mattie "Mae" Brown, Lillie Bell Sheppard, Lucy "Big Irby" Irby, Maggie "Phine" Golden, Mildred A. Mickles and Wilene "Wig" Brown.
Friends may call on Friday, July 26, 2019, from 6-8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 P.M. Noon in Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 224 Dixie Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Joseph Strong will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
