Henry “Hank” A. Landoll, Jr., 84, of Cline Street, died Friday evening, November 11, 2011, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 20, 1927, in Norwalk and attended St. Paul’s before joining the Navy where he served in World War II and fought in the Battle of Okinawa. Hank was a captain of the Norwalk Police Department, and retired in 1981, after 28 years of service. He then served as a driver for the Senior Enrichment Services for 26 years. Hank was a Lifetime Member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion, as well as a past officer of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also inducted into the Norwalk Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996, and enjoyed flying, traveling, and boating with his family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Carolyn Grahl of Norwalk; son Henry “Hal” (Ginny) Landoll, III, of Waxhaw, North Carolina; daughter Rebecca (Harry) Sullivan of Atlanta, Georgia; son Theodore “Ted” (Susan) Landoll of Butler; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five step-great-grandchildren; sisters Elaine (Dean) Hanson and Bonita (Gordon) Smith of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bernice (Dowler) Landoll; a sister, Elizabeth Mozzaco; and a brother, Richard Landoll.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, 5-7 p.m., at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Evans Funeral Home, with Rev. Margaret D’Anieri officiating, and internment with military honors at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery to follow.
