Richard F. Porter

Richard F. Porter, 81, residing in Huron, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, September 16, 2019 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Dick was born October 25, 1937 in North Olmsted, OH to the late George H. and Lois I. (Shane) Porter.

A graduate of North Olmsted High School, Dick received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Kent State University. He was employed at A.M. Castle, before embarking on his own business venture, R.F.Porter & Associates, specializing in automotive prototype design. Dick held 20 patents in the automotive field and was also a consultant for many years.

Dick was a member of Plum Brook Country Club, Columbia Hills Country Club, Catawba Island Club, Sandusky Yacht Club, Huron Yacht Club, Lakewood and Rocky River Rotary, American Welding Society, American Society for Metals, The Amigo's Club of Cleveland, Cleveland Athletic Club, National Audubon Society, Safari Club International and a Life Member of the NRA. Dick also founded the Walleye Magazine.

Dick enjoyed boating, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, big game hunting, bird watching, landscaping and spending time with his wife and friends.

Dick is survived by his wife, Jenine (Hyvarinen) Porter, whom he married June 29, 1990; his mother-in-law, Virginia Hyvarinen and Chartreuse, his Maine Coon cat and the apple of his eye.

In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ben Hyvarinen.

Dick was an organ donor and Lifebanc was able to ensure his zest for life would live on through his donation.

His family wants to extend their appreciation to the Huron/EMS Fire Department for their service and the kindness they have extended during this difficult time.

A celebration of Dick's birthday and life are being planned for a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
