Lena Mae Cherry, 94, Sandusky, died Saturday, October 5, 2019, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born in DeKalb, MS on September 3, 1925 to the late Hester and Ida Mae (Houston) Hunter.
Lena was employed at the Ohio Veterans Home for over 20 years.
She attended New Life Church, and loved fishing, cooking, planting flowers, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jimmie (Linda) Cherry Jr. and Patricia Hunter, both of Sandusky; sister, Eloise (Herbert) Rainey and Dan Hunter both of Sandusky; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Marcie Cherry, Cleveland, OH and Carol Cherry, Kentucky; and a special brother-in-law, Johnny James Cherry, San Francisco, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie William Cherry Sr.; parents; daughters, Estella McKinney and Geraldine Cherry; sons, James Cherry and Johnny Cherry; and twelve brothers.
Friends may call on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in New Life Church, 6511 Milan Rd., Sandusky. Rev. John Adams will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Lena's name to New Life Church.
