Robert Edgar Hawkins, 95, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, October 7, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born on May 29, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Robert C. and Mary (Conrad) Hawkins.
Robert graduated from Shelter Island High School and received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from NYU. He was a US Veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a civil engineer at New Departure Hyatt GM for 33 years before retiring in 1986. Robert was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, American Legion Post #83 and the Thunderbird Hills Retiree Golf Association. He enjoyed golfing and gardening.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Peggy (Chuck) McKenna of Norwalk, Marilyn Boniol of St. Petersburg, FL and Nancy (Craig) Firestone of Wooster, OH; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte (Winberg) Hawkins in 2010 and sister, Kathryn Rasmussen.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Pastor David Hixson will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
