Donald D. Humphrey

Donald D. Humphrey, 81, of Castalia, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 9, 2019, in Firelands Regional Medical Center. Sandusky.

He was born July 3, 1938, in Port Clinton, was a 1956 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, and a 1960 graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy.

He served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 25 years, retiring in 1985, and then was Transportation Supervisor for Margaretta Schools. He also served in the Ohio National Guard.

Don was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, NRA, Eagles, Amvets, Moose, and the Castalia Lions Club, where he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award.
He enjoyed the outdoors, where he would hunt, fish, and boat, and loved being with his children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, the former JoAnn Weitzel, to whom he was married for 59 years; daughter Rebecca (Brian) Hann of Castalia; son Eric Humphrey of Milwaukee, WI; and 3 grandchildren Tyler, William, and Wyatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday, Oct. 11, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 9 am Sat., Oct. 12, until time of Mass at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church 1605 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky. The Rev. Chris Jesudhason will officiate and and burial will be in Graves Cemetery, Margaretta Township.
