Melvin L. Myerholtz, age 83, of Castalia, died Tuesday evening, December 3, 2019, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born February 1, 1936, in Graytown, OH, and graduated from Oak Harbor High School.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia. Melvin was self-employed his whole life and owned and operated the Blue Hole Honey Farm. As a commercial beekeeper, Melvin had a large influence in the Ohio State Beekeepers Association. In 1965, he became the 1st Vice President of the Association and he helped create and build the apiaries at Ohio State. Following his beekeeping, he was a truck driver.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Kathryn (Knepper) Myerholtz; three sons Clinton Myerholtz, Gregory (Patricia) Myerholtz, and Fred (Cathy) Myerholtz; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; two sisters Elaine Mylander and Karen (Dennis) Dewitz; one brother Lowell (Helen) Myerholtz; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, Friday, December 6, 2019, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Services will be 10AM Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia. Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery after the luncheon at the church.
