Leon Gambrell

Leon Gambrell, 79, Sandusky, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010 in University Hospital of Cleveland.

He was born on November 27, 1930 in Pendleton, South Carolina. 2010 in University Hospital of Cleveland. Leon graduated from Anderson High School, Anderson, SC, and attended Columbia University in South Carolina. He was a Golden Glove boxer in high school and college. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1950-1953. He worked at Ford Motor Co. in Lorain for many years. He was a member of St. Stephens A.M.E. Church where he sang in the men's choir and was a trustee.

Leon is survived by his son, Lonell (Bernice) Taylor, Sandusky; grandchildren, Lonell Lorenzo Taylor, Jr., Travis Taylor, and Brian K. Martin; eight great-grandchildren; brother, James (Willie) Gambrell, Sandusky; very special friend, Gloria Smith, Sandusky; former wife of 20 years, Elsie Gambrell, Sandusky; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Aline (Richey) Gambrell, Sr.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 1 P.M. in St. Stephens A.M.E. Church, 312 Neil St., Sandusky. Rev. Barbara Huston will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens A.M.E. Church. The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Sunday after 2 P.M. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave.,Sandusky, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at
