Ruth Arlene (Gruver) Howard, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully Monday morning, January 6, 2020 at Portland Place.
Ruth was born on March 26, 1932 in Norwalk, OH to the late Clarence C. and Agnes M. (Adelman) Gruver.
Ruth graduated from Norwalk St. Paul. She retired from Columbia Gas after 39 years of service. Ruth was a chaplain for the Eagles #444 for 10 years, the 2nd VP of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Red Hat Ladies of Sandusky and an OVH volunteer through Stein Hospice. She loved animals and spoiling her pets, and was an avid gardener, particularly skilled with roses.
Ruth is survived by her step-daughter, Marlene (Michael) Failor of Sandusky; step-sons, Randall (Patricia) Howard and Mark (Kim) Howard both of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hewitt of Cincinnati; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Claude R. Howard in 2008; son, Stephen Hewitt and step-son, Tim Howard.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 10:00 am until funeral services at 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
