Christa Anita (Kopka) Brinson, 81, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, January 10, 2020 in Providence Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born on February 13, 1938 in Karsruhe, Germany.
On September 19, 1956 she married James E. Brinson and began her life as an Army wife, traveling between the United States and Germany. After James' retirement from the military in 1968 they settled in Sandusky.
She was employed by Sandusky Plastics (the former Foster Grant) and for a short time by New Departure, retiring in 1992. She was an avid bowler in the early '70s, bowling in city tournaments and leagues.
Never losing her German heritage or accent, she was known in the family as "Gramma Zsa Zsa."
She is survived by her children, Patricia A. (Roger) Hartley, of Sandusky, Joyce E. Brinson, of Reynoldsburg, OH, Selinda Kabalkin, of Henderson, NV, Michael J. Brinson, of Sandusky, Susan M. (David) Bartone, of Lake Stevens, WA, and John E. (Elizabeth) Brinson, of Millersport, OH; grandchildren, Erica J. Hartley, Christine (Niki) Jackson-Oglesby, Brandi Oglesby, Zachary Kabalkin, Shane Zeccola, and Raven Brinson; siix great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins in Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Sarge" E. Brinson, in December of 2015, and her parents, August and Elise Kopka.
Private family visitation and services will be held at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Reginald Taylor of Second Baptist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Christa's name to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St., Sandusky, OH 44870 or to one's favorite charity.
