Michael R. Krafty, 73, a lifelong Sandusky resident, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 30, 2020 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.
Mike was born on March 28, 1946 in Sandusky, OH to the late James A. and Jeanne (May) Krafty.
Mike graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1964. His career as a sheet metal journeyman began at Ahner Sheet Metal. He retired in 2012 from Ford Motor Company after 35 years. Mike was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Sandusky Elks Lodge 285 and the Local UAW 1216. Mike enjoyed sunsets on Kelleys Island, bowling, boating and fishing. He was an avid golfer and reader, and had an extensive library of murder mystery novels. Mike liked going to his children's and grandchildren's school events, where he always showed up early, but above all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his wife, Susan (Tunnington) Krafty, whom he married on February 5, 1966. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Moran of Medina; sons, Michael J. (Sarah) Krafty of Rossford and Richard J. Krafty of Huron; seven grandchildren, McKenzie Moran, Erin Krafty, Bryce Moran, Adam Krafty, Michael G. Krafty, Nicholas Krafty and Megan Krafty; sister, Linda (Alan) Lonz of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Camille Krafty and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Krafty.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 9:00 am until the time of his Memorial Mass at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Father Monte Hoyles will officiate and be assisted by Deacon Joe Malenfant. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Sandusky Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
