John J. Ohlemacher, age 80, of Norwalk, died Friday evening, December 2, 2011 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
He was born November 30, 1931 in Lakeside to the late Ralph and Elizabeth Ohlemacher and raised by his late step-father, Emil Jesse. He attended St. Joseph and Monroeville schools and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1949 until 1952, where he received a purple heart. He was an iron worker for over 22 years and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled Veterans and Eagles. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and remodeling his home.
He is survived by his wife 59 years, Alice (Felty) Ohlemacher to whom he married on August 2, 1952; children, John (Linda) Ohlemacher of Columbia, TN, James Ohlemacher of Vermilion, Jeffrey Ohlemacher of Biloxi, MS, Jeanne (John) Stieber of Norwalk, Jack Ohlemacher of Ludlow, MA and Joey Ohlemacher of Norwalk; grandchildren, Andrea McPheron, Melissa Branchau, Nicholas Ohlemacher, Aaron, Ohlemacher, Matthew Ohlemacher and Anthony Stieber; great-grandchildren, Austin Branchau, Jacob Branchau, Ethan Branchau, Brendan McPheron, Brady McPheron and Hailey McPheron.
He was preceded in death by his brother in 2004, Ronald Jesse
A gathering for family and friends will be held Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Private interment will be held at a later date.
