Willis Lee Coffey

Willis Lee Coffey, 71, went to be with the Lord, our Savior, on Saturday, February 1, 2020 in Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, OH after a lengthy illness.

Willis was born on March 9, 1948 and raised in Sandusky.

He was a 1966 graduate of Sandusky High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Willis was a member of the Erie County Young Democrats. He worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) as an inspector for 30 years. He was a local union steward and past president of the AFSCME and AFL-CIO. Willis was an avid softball player, playing for the Sandusky City League, Grace Episcopal Church, The Hub Club, and Young's Tavern. Willis enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards. He volunteered for many years with the Special Olympics.

Willis leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Melissa Coffey Chaney and Amelia Coffey, both of Sandusky, and Melinda Coffey, of Lakewood; son, Brian (Rose) Coffey, of Avon Lake; granddaughters, Courtney Chaney, Victoria Reed, and Katherine Coffey; grandsons, Kordell Chaney, Christopher Coffey, and Camden Prophet; and brother, Allen (Barb) Coffey, of Norwalk.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Virginia Lee Coffey; sister, Virginia Anne Coffey; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Carrie (White) Hindley; and paternal grandparents, Matt and Beale (Ferguson) Coffey.

Family and friends are invited to join the family at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Rd. Sandusky, OH 44870, from 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 until funeral services begin at 1 p.m. Private burial will take place in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.
