Robert J. Fantozz Sr., 81, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday evening, February 27, 2020 at Firelands Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Bob was born on December 31, 1938 in Sandusky, OH to the late Frank and Rosemary (Corso) Fantozz.
Bob graduated from Sandusky High School in 1957. He was a barber at the former family owned Corso's Barber Shop, and retired from Sandusky Steel in 1998 after 25 years of service as a supervisor. Bob was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, K of C's, Sandusky Elks Lodge #285, Sandusky Amvets Post 17, Sandusky Yacht Club and the former I.A.B. Club. He also volunteered at the soup kitchen and different local organizations. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and all local high school sports, cooking, traveling and family gatherings. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, family and his beloved, Toby.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol (Kaiser) Fantozz, whom he married on January 7, 1957. He is also survived by his daughter, Patty (Sam) Phillips of Rock Hill, SC; sons, Bill (Patti Jo) Fantozz of FL and Bobby (Debbie) Fantozz of Sandusky; grandchildren, Eric, Kelly, Amanda, Devin, Billy and Abby; great-grandsons, Luke and James; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Marie Kaiser, Sandy Kaiser and Janet Fantozz; aunt, Joyce Kenne and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sister, Donna Fantozz; brother, Ron Fantozz and brother-in-law, Bill Kaiser.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 9:30 am follow by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Father Monte Hoyles will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
