Wayne R. Larsen Sr.

Wayne R. Larsen Sr, 83, Sandusky, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 21st, 2020 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Wayne was born August 7, 1936 in Sandusky to the late James and Lillian (Rickard) Larsen.

Wayne attended Port Clinton schools and enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country from 1953-1959. Wayne served one conflict in the Korean War.

He continued to care for his community in many ways by serving as a police officer on Put-In-Bay as well as a security guard at Hills Department store. Wayne worked for Ford Motor Company, but really enjoyed the island life. He worked on North Bass Island as well as Lonz's Winery on Middle Bass. He was later employed by Island Resorts on Put-In-Bay where he worked for over a decade at the McCann Dorms with his wife.

Wayne loved his life on the water and the people he met each year. He helped guide those who were new to America and cared about each of the young adults like they were his own. Wayne was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed spending time with his wife and friends at the Senior Center, playing cards and bingo. He lived to make people laugh and appreciated humor when it was needed most. Wayne loved telling animated stories to his family about his experiences through life, the stories always had one on the edge of their seat. He loved selflessly and even on his worst days looked to brighten others. He loved to go boating, fishing and fix anything he could get his hands on. Wayne let nothing go to waste. He loved the casinos even late in life, Wayne and his wife loved to vacation in Las Vegas. He loved motorcycles and told stories of traveling to Niagara Falls on his bike. Wayne was a genuine family man, known as Papa to his grandkids. He cherished his wife dearly, and they had the kind of love one wished they found for themselves. His family and friends were also shown this love each and every day. He will be missed deeply, but always remembered by his loving ways, witty humor and gentle demeanor.

"One of the hardest things that has ever been required of me, was the day I had to let you go, as the angels carried you to Heaven."

Those left behind to cherish Wayne's memory are his sister, Sandra (Larsen) Lambert of Port Clinton; in laws Wilfred and Sandee Keating Jr of Grand Rapids, Michigan; daughter, DeeAnn Butler-Carter (Chad Carter) of Huron; son, Wayne Larsen Jr (Melissa Hovey-Larsen) of Willard; grandchildren, Kala Larsen, Codey Larsen, and Kennedy Carter of Huron; Taylor Butler of Copley; Ambrielle Larsen of Perkins and 8 great grandchildren.

Wayne is preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandra L. Larsen and his parents James and Lillian (Rickard) Larsen.

Private services will be held and burial will take place in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.
