Richard A. Knittel, 88, Norwalk, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
He was born on June 27, 1922 in Berlin Heights, Ohio. Richard was a life-long farmer, and also worked for Norwalk Furniture for fifteen years, retiring in 1984. He was hard-working and loved farming. He was a Detroit Tigers fan, and loved helping his son in the wood shop.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris (McPherson) Knittel, whom he married on July 12, 1947; daughters, Mary Ann (Tim) Tillinghast, Berlin Heights, and Barb (Edward) Smialowski, Milan; sons, Dale (Tammy) Knittel, Norwalk, and Ronald Knittel, Sandusky; grandchildren, Stacey, Jason, Sara, Dana, Tina, Kyle, Chad, Chasity, and Caleb; one step-grandson; eleven great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and sister, Marian Lucille Fritz, Norwalk.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Knittel; mother, Dorothy (Russ) Derby; stepfather, Bruce Derby; and son, Duane Knittel.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 3 P.M. at the family's house, 568 New State Rd, Norwalk, OH 44857. Rev. Jamie Stewart, Stein Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Hester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH, 44870.
