Rosemary Ann (Schnurr) Mantey

Rosemary Ann (Schnurr) Mantey, 97, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday morning, April 7, 2020 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.

Rosemary was born on January 19, 1923 in Sandusky, OH to the late Alfred Sr. and Ida (Killian) Schnurr.

Rosemary graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1940, where she was class secretary and planned the class reunions well into her 80's. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a 10 year volunteer at Firelands Hospital and enjoyed helping in the Sandusky Library gift shop.

She found contentment in the ordinary routines of housework and believed kindness and morality were necessary elements of a good life. She loved attending her grandchildren's school activities, playing in her monthly pinochle card club, doing puzzles, solving crosswords and playing cut-throat multi handed solitaire with her family. She was an avid baker. Rosemary found enjoyment in gardening and backyard bird watching. Her unwavering love and support will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Rosemary is survived by her children, John E. (Mel) Mantey of Livonia, MI, Peter A. Mantey of Coos Bay, OR, Mary (Mark) Andrews of Bellevue and Julie Fulton of Sandusky; grandchildren, Ben (Kim), Rachel (Pete), Annie, Mike (Kelly), Ella (Nick), Sam, Mitchell, Meredith (fiancé, Anthony), Mariel (Justin), Ciara, Shelby and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Maureen, Evie, Isaac, Otis, Elle, Letty and Joe and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Rosemary is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jim in 1997, whom she married September 14, 1943; sisters, Effie Schnurr and Emily Lauber and brothers, Alton, Alfred Jr. and Francis Schnurr.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church and announced at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute to Rosemary's memory may do so to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870 or to SCCS Tuition Assistance, 410 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky, OH 44870.
