Edward I. Soltesz

EDWARD I. SOLTESZ, Lt. Colonel (Retired) and Doctor of Dental Surgery - age 86 of Sandusky, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Dr. Soltesz was born on January 23, 1925 in Elm Grove, West Virginia. He joined the Army Air Corps in October 1944, and was a gunner and armaments chief on B-29's stationed on Tinian Island in the South Pacific. He was with the 20th Air Force and 509th Bomb Group (The Atomic Bomb Group). He served our country for twenty-six years in the U.S. Armed Forces, mostly in the Reserve.


He graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, and thereafter attended and graduated from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Afterwards he opened a private dental practice in Sandusky, and was the major force in fluoridating the water supply of Erie County. He was appointed by Governor Dick Celeste for membership in the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodores. He was active in the Men's Garden Club of Erie County for several years, and served as a Vice President of the Lions Club. He was also a life member of both the VFW and the American Legion.


Dr. Soltesz is survived by his two sisters Goldie Soltesz White of North Canton and Andrea Soltesz Hinkle of Atlanta, his children E. Dean Soltesz of Columbus, and Diana Soltesz Barrett and Kim Soltesz McKillips both of Sandusky, He had two grandchildren, Katrina and Erica, and three great grandchildren, Brookelyn, Teagan and Braydon, whom he all adored. He also had nine nephews and two nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Dr. Soltesz was preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther Soltesz, his sister Margaret Soltesz Smith, and his brother Alfred Alex Soltesz.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 11th, from 2:00 to 4:30 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, and on Monday from 12:00 noon until time of service at 1:30 PM at Zion Lutheran Church at 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870. The Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in the Veterans Section.
