Herbert Rainey

Herbert Rainey, 82, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2010 in Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born on May 19, 1937 in Belzoni, MS to the late Ezeikel and Addie (Marywarthery) Rainey. Herbert was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Lorain for 43 years.

Herbert was a deacon at Exalted Word Church. He loved to bowl, fish, sports, football, basketball and baseball. In his younger years he was a boxer, enjoyed western TV shows, black walnut and butter pecan ice cream, and reading the Bible. Herbert loved his family, kids, grandkids, great grandkids, alonf with special grandkids and casual kids that hung around.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eloise (Hunter) Rainey; kids, Marchell Alexander, Danny Rainey and Jacqui Shabazz all of Sandusky, Johnnie Rainey, Angie (Eddie) Morrow and Ylonda (Charles) Rainey-Ocheltree all of Lorain, OH, Leon (Pam) Rainey, Alabama, and Cassandra (James) Edwards, Cleveland, OH; grandkids, Rodrigo (Stephanie) Davis, Twanishia Davis, Keynita Edwards, Julius (Juanita) Webb, Domonic Webb, Quan Webb, Taja River, Jami'la Edwards, Camille (Laron) Edwards, Ray Green, Malik Shabazz, Khaliah Shabazz, William Bestian, Kenny Bryant, Lance Cantue, Laquana Alexander, Salena Alexander, Darnel Alexander, Luchana Alexander, Timmy Young, and special granddaughter, Shardaye Smith; over 30 great-grandchildren; step-sister, Hazel Thomasen; step brother, Larry Hall; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother Nettie Rainey; kids, Calvin Davis and Delouise Edwards; sister, Dorothy and Rosielee; brothers, L.V. and Alonzo.

Private services will be held for the family. Pastor Luther McGee will officiate. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery.
