Ernest "Ernie" H. Bowman, 93, Castalia, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 6, 1927 in Speedwell, TN to the late James and Maggie (Green) Bowman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII.
Ernie was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky for 38 years.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, life time member of the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky where he was past Americanism Chairman for 10 years, past American Legion 5th District for 8 years, 40/8 Voiture, past Chaplain for 20 years, and a member of the Honor Guard, which he was very proud. He also was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2529, Sandusky, and the Amvets Post 17 Sandusky. Ernie was chairman of his high school Oratorical program, a member of the Sandusky Kiwanis, and the Erie County Veterans Park Board. He received the Red Cross Hero Award in 2012, and was inducted in Ohio Veteran's Hall of Fame in November of 2015. Ernie enjoyed golfing and playing music with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, to whom he married in 1955 Lorene (Jordan) Bowman; sons, Larry W. (Nancy) Bowman, Sandusky, and Randy R. (Cheryl) Bowman, Valley City, OH; grandson, William K. Bowman; brother, Jack Bowman, Milford, OH; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Melba L. Anderson, Anne Edwards, Waltsie Minton, and Della Turner; brothers, Gene Bowman, and Ray Bowman.
Private family visitation and burial will take place in Castalia Cemetery. Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44780.
