Leonard J. LaRose

Leonard J. LaRose, 71, residing in Bellevue, passed away Thursday morning, April 23, 2020 at UTMC from an illness resulting from a spinal cord injury sustained 15 years ago. His fight and determination were evident each and every day. He was an example to his family and all who knew him of how to handle adversity with courage and grace. He handled it all with an unwavering smile.

Leonard was born on July 13, 1948 in Sandusky, OH to Salvatore C. and Rose A. (Fresch) LaRose.

Leonard proudly served in the National Guard. He had previously been employed for 14 years in law enforcement for the Sandusky and Perkins Police Departments and the Erie County Sheriff Department. He had also worked at New Departure, and was a software trainer, bookkeeper and income tax preparer. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Karen S. (Francis) LaRose, having celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 11, 2020. He is also survived by his children, Kevin (Missy) LaRose, Linda (Rich) Lilly and Liana (Paul) Miller all of Bellevue; mother, Rose of Sandusky; grandchildren, Lucy and Lincoln LaRose, Zarek, Kegan, Gunnar and Dakota Lilly and Logan, Mason and Kaden Miller; sister, Jenny Schaefer of Sandusky; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Scott (Gayle) Francis, Jerry (Jeri) Francis and Kelly (Tom) Heckman; aunt, Shirley Vincenz Meyer; uncle, Thomas LaRose and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

In addition to his father, Salvatore "Tuttie" LaRose, Leonard is preceded in death by nephew, Chad Francis; his in-laws, Eugene and Patricia Francis and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Private family services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Meadow Green Memorial Park Mausoleum. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
