Patricia Louise Zeron Cates Warner

Patricia Louise Zeron Cates Warner, a long time resident of Sandusky, passed away Saturday April 25th at home with family.

She was born on August 31st, 1938 in Massena, NY to Thelma and Hugh Zeron.

The second of seven children, Pat was raised in a military family that moved frequently due to her father's periodic reassignment to different Army bases. Although this led to the Zeron children settling in different states over the years, they remain very close.

Pat was an avid volunteer, donating her time to a myriad of organizations including the Erie County Help Organization (ECHO), Erie County Cancer Services, Erie County Republican Party, and for the Women's Auxiliary of Good Samaritan Hospital where she held various offices including President. Additionally she served as a CASA, a Jaycee, and volunteered in nursing homes and for hospice. She was very involved in local politics as well, assisting during elections and eventually accepting full-time employment with the Erie County Board of Elections where she was a clerk and ultimately their director for a number of years. She was awarded several distinctions and awards for her tireless commitment to serving others both on a volunteer basis and in her positions with the Board of Elections. Despite all of her accomplishments, Pat is most remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, spontaneity, generosity, and fierce love of family and friends. Her love of others and ability to make everyone feel welcome made her a favorite among not only her own friends, but also a favorite "second Mom" to many of her childrens' friends as well. In true Pat fashion, she was a jokester up to the very end. She was a wonderful mother, sister, and friend and will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by her three children, Penny Jean Cates, Larry Dean Warner, and Page Loraine Warner (Scot Mayhorne), three grandchildren, Masood, William, and Megan Cates, two great grandchildren, Arnold and Gabriel, one sister, Cynthia Casselman, brothers, Charles (Mary Sue) Zeron, Richard (Ann) Zeron, William (Dana) Zeron, cousin, Steven (Debbie) Alguire, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and very dear long time friends, Winnie Kautz and Ingrid Coiffard.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, her siste,r Beverly Kay (Herbie) Upell, brother, Neil John Zeron, husband, William Cates, and very special friend, William Buker.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Knoxville, TN with a date to be determined. Many memories and stories will be shared, something that Pat would thoroughly enjoy and that her family hopes she and other deceased loved ones will attend in spirit.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or SouthernCare Hospice.

Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements.
