God called his most beloved and devoted daughter, Barbara Ann Opfer, 69, formerly of Sandusky, home in the early morning hours of May 7, 2020.
Born on November 26, 1950 to Robert and Evelyn Opfer, Barbara was the second of seven children to be blessed with their parenting.
In her early years, Barb was known for her baseball skills and loved a good challenge at the plate with the neighborhood boys. Barb graduated Salutatorian from St. Mary's High School Class of 1968. She entered the Notre Dame Province of Toledo in 1968. In 1973 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Major in Social Studies and Minor in Education) from Mary Manse College, Toledo. She served in the Notre Dame community from 1968 - 1985.
Barb excelled as a teacher and mentor to students and colleagues alike. She taught at the junior high and high school levels in numerous Catholic schools in both Ohio and Indiana. Barb set a stellar example for all whom she taught as well as those who benefitted under her mentorship. When her health issues overtook her abilities in the classroom, Barbara did not give up. She shifted her focus to serving her brothers and sisters in the communities in which she lived. Despite her pain, she faced life with a smile, sacrificing her own needs for those of others.
She is survived by her siblings, Jim, Mary, Ed (Julie Roth), Ron, Mike (Dana Karas), and Bob; along with multiple nieces and nephews. Barbara will be remembered by those whose lives she so humbly served.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Evelyn Opfer.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, there will be no public visitation or services at this time. Future announcements will be made for a funeral mass to celebrate Barbara's life.
