Johnnie Smith

Johnnie Smith 69, Sandusky, transitioned on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in Avon Place, Avon, OH, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on February 18, 1951 in Brewton, AL, to his loving parents, Willie Floyd and Hannah (Kelly) Smith Sr. Johnnie was a 1969 graduate of T.R. Miller High School and also attended Terra Technical College.

Johnnie loved sports, enjoying watching his favorite team the Detroit Lions, also he was known for being a great bowler, golfer and loved fishing. He loved all Science Fiction movies and spending time with his family and friends.

He was transferred from General Motors in Detroit, MI, to Sandusky, where he was employed for a total of 32 years.

He married his loving wife of 36 years, Patrice Smith on December 27, 1983 in Detroit, MI, and from this union they had three children, Curt Lewis, Tospre Lewis, Sandusky, and Johnny D. Smith, Sandusky; grandchildren, Alexus (Adonijah) Este, El Paso, TX, Curt Lewis "Little Curt", Gastonia, NC, Azjaah Smith, El Paso, TX, Jeigh Diamond Smith, Brooklyn Smith-Logan, Jazmyn Denise Smith, and Myles Lewis Smith, all of Sandusky; great grandchildren, Jeremiah Wright and Sakari Este; brothers, Eddie (Minnie) Smith, Brewton, AL, Sam (Rena) Smith, Detroit, MI, Donald Smith, NC; nephew, like a brother, Billy (Lori) Smith, Detroit, MI; sisters, Betty Smith and Judy Smith, both of NY, Phyllis Smith, Detroit, MI, and Linda Smith, Brewton, AL; long time friends, Carla "Cookie" Gregory-Thomas, Rochester, NY, Mike (Valorie) Cruse, David (Karin) Moore, Welston (Carol) Nickelson, and Larry Logan all of Sandusky, Charolette Davis, NC, and Beverly, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death his parents; son, Curt Lewis; grandson, Johnny Smith Jr.; brother, Willie Floyd Smith Jr.; and sister, Barbara Smith.

Due to COVID 19, private family services will be held in his memory.
