Robert J. Grathwol, 90, residing in Sandusky, passed away Wednesday morning, May 13, 2020 at Parkvue Health Care Center.
Robert was born on April 5, 1930 in Sandusky, OH to the late Irvin and Veronica (Hamburger) Grathwol.
Robert graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1948. He retired as a Sergeant from the Sandusky Police Department in 1985 after 33 years of service and also drove the school bus for Sandusky City Schools for 26 years and also helped out driving the bus for the SMCC Athletic Department for several years.
Robert was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the FOP Lake Erie Lodge #17. He was a huge Ohio State and NASCAR fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially at Christmas. His dry sense of humor was a always a source of entertainment for the whole family; he was a devoted husband and loving dad.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Geoff) Goodfellow of Avon Lake and Diane (Jimmy) Farley of Vermilion; grandchildren, Tiffany (Mark) Nitschke Bittenbender, Jessica (David) Nitschke Auyong, Father Scott Goodfellow and Elizabeth Goodfellow; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Reid, Benson, Presley and Callie; brothers, John J. (Jack) (Maryann) Grathwol, James Grathwol and Edward (Louie) Grathwol all of Sandusky and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene (Brown), whom passed away exactly 16 years earlier on May 13, 2004.
Due to the health and safety of others, the Grathwol family is conducting a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church. His grandson, Father Scott Goodfellow will officiate services. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
