Joe L. Kirksey

Joe L. Kirksey, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, May 18, 2020 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Joe was born on August 10, 1936 in Gilbertown, AL to the late Albert and Nettie (Simpson) Kirksey.

Joe graduated from Melvin High School in Melvin, Alabama in 1955. Joe retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service. He was a deacon and trustee at the Second Baptist Church of Sandusky, where he helped the youth financially attend Sunday School. He was also a member of the UAW Local 425. In his spare time, he enjoyed doing automotive repairs, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jessie (James) Kirksey, whom he married on February 9, 1957. He is also survived by his daughter, Karen Smith of Sandusky; sons, Michael Kirksey of Sandusky, Joel (Kathi) Kirksey of Lorain and Ulysses Kirksey of Sandusky; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lottie Kirksey-Jones, Natherlee Kirksey, Brunell Hendrickson and Fannie Young; brother, Alfred (Louise) Kirksey Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian L. Kirksey; five sisters, Ida Mae Bonner, Carrie Napier, Mattiebelle Beckwith, Rosa Polk and Nettie V. Philon and three brothers, Albert Kirksey Sr., William Kirksey Sr., and Jesse Kirksey Sr.

Extended family and friends may call on Friday, May 22, 2020 from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm in the Meadow Green Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2602 Bogart Rd, Huron. Private family services will then be conducted by both, Pastor Reginald Taylor and Bishop Scottie Aaron. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
