Melvin Junior Heiberger

Melvin Junior Heiberger, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, May 22, 2020 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.

Melvin was born on February 14, 1928 in Sandusky, OH to the late Edward Joseph and Anna Augusta (Everett) Heiberger.

Melvin was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving in New Jersey and the Marshall Islands and received the Victory Medal, America Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He retired from Farrell Cheek Steel Company after 20 years of service. Melvin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Legion, AMVETS, VFW and various bowling leagues. He was an avid Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavs and Ohio State Buckeye fan. He enjoyed square dancing and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Marian (Jess) Heiberger, whom he married on July 3, 1953. He is also survived by his three daughters, Paula Heiberger (Steve Beach) of Arlington, OH, Denise (David) Gennari of Sandusky and Marsha (Michael) Hudgin of North Canton, OH; grandchildren, Elizabeth (John), Christopher (Samantha), Matthew (Ashley) and Rebecca; great-grandchildren, Riley, McKenzie, Lia, Avery, Reagan and Paisley; special extended family, Mahlon (Miriam) Beachy, Caleb (Lindsay) Beachy and Suzanna (Ed) Caldwell and their families, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by sisters, Mildred and Katherine and brothers, Myron, Maynard, Edward, Wilson, Kenneth and Willard.

Private family services will be held at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Pastor Bill Schroeder will officiate services. Burial will be held in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
