Russell A. Knisely, 71, of Sandusky, OH passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 20, 2020 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, OH.
He was born August 20, 1948 in Sandusky, OH and was a 1967 graduate of Sandusky High School.
Russell earned his Associates Degree from BGSU, Firelands Campus. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving in Saigon. Russell was employed at various jobs over the years and following retirement he was a carrier for the Sandusky Register. He was a board member and coordinator of Muscular Dystrophy in Ashland, OH; a board member of Cancer Services of Erie County; and a member of the International Referral and Network of Northern Ohio. Russell also published the newsletter for the Ashland County Humane Society.
He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Mary (Foltz) Knisely; two sons, Kenneth Knisely of Sandusky, OH and Robert (Kinde) Knisely of Florence, KY; two granddaughters, Kayla and Megan; one special nephew, Kevin Knisely of Sandusky, OH; brother-in-law, Clifford (Sandy) Foltz of Willard, OH; sister-in-law, Geraldine Knisely of Sandusky, OH; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Shirley (Ballash) Knisely; and one brother, Wayne Knisely.
Family services will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH. Pastor Lenore Kure will officiate. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870, Mental Health and Recovery Board of Erie and Ottawa Counties, 1907 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to the family.
