William A. "Bill" Nemeth, Sr., 86, of Sandusky passed away peacefully Sunday, May 17, 2020 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
He was born October 21, 1933 to Fred and Anna (Kish) Nemeth in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was a 1952 graduate of Lakewood High School. Bill proudly enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1952 and was honored to have served on the front lines as a gunner during the Korean War until 1955.
Bill was raised in Cleveland during the depression and knew the value of work. He lived in Castalia, Ohio for forty years where he raised his family. Bill took great pride in always being able to find work to support his family in his adult life. He was employed at the former New Departure Hyatt, Division of General Motors for thirty-two years prior to his retirement.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and received several marksman awards. His most cherished moments were those spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky and a former member of the Erie County Conservation League, NRA, and UAW Local 913.
He is survived by one son, William "Bill" (Kathy) Nemeth, Jr.; one daughter, Lisa (Craig) Hecht, both of Sandusky; one daughter-in-law, Kim Nemeth of Sandusky; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Blake) Baker of Gulf Port, Mississippi; Kassidy (D'Mitre) Nemeth of Akron, Ohio; and Max Hecht of Sandusky; one brother, Fred (Blanche) Nemeth, Jr. of Columbia Station; one special niece, Bonnie Keegan of Castalia; other nieces, nephews, and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Nemeth in 2016 and his parents.
A family memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 10:30 am in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Rev. Bill Schroeder will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
