With deep sorrow and regret we would like to announce the passing of our mom, Mother Elizabeth Hamilton-Ruffin, Sandusky. Elizabeth, affectionately known as Mama, Sister, Nana, Aunt Sister, and Liz.
Mother was born on June 8, 1932 to the late Ernest and Maybell Twymon in Talladega, Alabama.
She moved to Sandusky, Ohio in 1955 and soon became a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Richard Ashburn. She loved attending church every Sunday and donning her many stylish hats. She also enjoyed planting her beautiful Geranium flowers each spring.
Mama owned and operated Ruffin Refuse for 51 years since its creation in 1969. She ran the business from her kitchen table, often doing the bookkeeping and managing records. She was meticulous with her work, as she did not use a computer and recorded everything by hand. In 2014, she was selected as Entrepreneur of the Year by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Sandusky, Ohio. Mrs. Hamilton-Ruffin was quite the businesswoman.
Liz is survived by her son, Daniel (Vanessa) Hamilton; her granddaughter, LaDonna Moore, Ph.D.; her son, Adrian (Kim) Hamilton; her granddaughter, Andrea Mack; her grandson, Adrian Hamilton II; and three great grandchildren, Ti'Yonna, Jermaine, and Adrian III. She is also survived by one sister, Catherine Curry and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Our mother was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Joe Hamilton; her second husband, the late Frison Ruffin; and her son, Timothy. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers: Milton, Oliver, Lewis, J.T., Willie, Ernest Jr., and George; and one sister, Evelyn Swain.
We would like to send a special thank you to the many people that offered our mother unconditional love and support during her time of need: Darwitt, Curtis (Annie), Willie, Marcia, Donna, Viola, Marietta, Major and a host of other individuals. Thank you also to the Brighter Light Home Healthcare agency and Stein Hospice Care Center!
We are going miss our mother's presence, as she was the joy of our lives. However, we will continue to cherish her memory and we know that her love lives on through us and the many people she encountered.
Friends may call on Saturday, May 30, 2020, from 11 A.M. until time of her funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Rev. Reginald Taylor will officiate. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Due to the current COVID19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required to ensure the safety of everyone during the celebration of our mother's life. Additionally, occupancy will be restricted according to CDC guidelines. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and support during this time.
