Lester "Butch" Barnum, 82, of Sandusky, died Saturday morning, July 11, 2020, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
He was born May 12, 1938, in Sandusky, and attended Margaretta High School.
He was an engineer with Ohio Edison for 34 years, retiring in 1994. Prior to this, he had worked for Erie County, and served in the US Army.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Castalia; Castalia Lions Club; Margaretta Boosters; American Legion, where he was past Commander and served on the Honor Guard; Dad's of VFW; Perseverance Lodge #329 F & AM; Past Margaretta Township Trustee; and volunteered for many organizations.
Butch is survived by his wife the former Denise Meade, to whom he was married for 36 years; daughter Anne Barnum Sarrica of Sandusky; step daughter Dana (Zach) Belak of Sandusky; step son Dustin Windisch of Norwalk; 6 grandchildren Anthony Sarrica, Alexis (Michael) Ebert, Alaina Sarrica, Elizabeth, Lillian, and Brandon Belak; 2 great grandchildren Asher and Greyson Ebert; brother Robert "Yoshiko" Barnum of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hurless and Estella (Sanders) Barnum.
Friends may call from 4-8 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2020, in the Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. The Lions Club will have a memorial service at 8 pm. Due to the COVID 19, the family asks that social distancing be in force and all people attending are required to wear masks.
Private family services will be held Wednesday, July 15, in Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, with the Rev. Kathleen Suggitt officiating. Burial will be in Venice Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia; Castalia Lions Club, Box 34, Castalia; or to Margaretta Boosters, 209 Lowell St., Castalia, OH.
