Jay Smith, 46, of Cleveland and formerly of Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, August 31, 2020 at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, following a sudden brain aneurysm.
He was born on October 15, 1973 in Sandusky, son of Jack P. Smith and the late June A. (LaLonde) Smith.
Jay attended Sandusky High School and worked for many years as an automotive mechanic.
Jay enjoyed spending time at the shop with his brothers and father. He often rode motorcycles with his son and nephews, as well as playing cards with his mother and nieces. He was known for making everyone around him smile and laugh with his sarcastic sense of humor.
Jay is survived by his father, Jack P. Smith, Sr., of Sandusky; son, Jason Smith, of Sandusky; daughter, Jessica Smith, of Monroeville; grandson, Aiden Stidham; brothers, Jack (Rebecca), Jeff (Elayne), Jerry (Valerie), all of Sandusky; great-uncle, Paul Hennessey, of Sandusky; aunt, Linda Smith, of Huron; aunt, Marsha Perez; aunt, Rita Ambrioti; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, June A. Smith in August of this year; and his grandparents.
It was Jay's wish to be cremated. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Venice Cemetery, Margaretta Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jay's name may be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
