Gerald "Jerry" E. Meeker, 87, a resident of Huron for many years was called home on October 3, 2020 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky from complications of the Coronavirus.
Jerry was born on January 14, 1933 in Sandusky, OH to the late Eldo and Gladys (Kuhl) Meeker.
Jerry was a 1951 graduate of Berlin Heights High School and entered the U.S. Coast Guard where he served from 1952 to 1954. Jerry was a Journeyman for Klingshirn Builders before going into business for himself. He was President of GNB Builders and the Gerald Meeker Builders. He built and remodeled homes in the Huron, Sandusky and Vermilion areas. He was known for his excellent workmanship and attention to detail. After retiring, Jerry and his wife, Phyllis, spent their winters in Florida, where he enjoyed reading, golf, travel and doing some home repairs for people in the area.
Jerry loved the Lord and lived a Christian life. He read and studied the Bible daily. He also wrote Christian poetry. Jerry was a past member of The Peoples Church, now Eagles Nest Church of Sandusky and most recently had attended Fathers' Heart Church of Sandusky. He also attended church services at the Ohio Veterans Home.
Jerry is survived by his step-daughter, Tamara (Rick) Milner of MD; step-son, Thomas (Melanie) Milner of NC; sister and caregiver, Carolyn (Meeker) Bartlome of Vermilion; son-in-law, Randy Meister of Mansfield; brother-in-law, Andrew Anthony of FL and Sandusky and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine (Anthony) Meeker; daughter, Deborah (Meeker) Meister; son, David Meeker and second wife, Phyllis (Schenk-Milner) Meeker.
A memorial service will be held and conducted at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
