Robert "Bob" H. Stockdale, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 2, 2020 at his home.
Bob was born on May 13, 1937 in Sandusky, OH and was raised at what is now the Stockdale Arboretum on Cleveland Road. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1955 and Miami University (OH) in 1959. He was a member of the Miami University golf team for three years and a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Following college, Bob served in the US Army and settled back in the Sandusky area, working for Union Chain and Ford Motor Company. He then established his own manufacturers' representative agency, R.H. Stockdale, Inc., where he happily worked for over 30 years.
Bob dearly loved Sandusky, its people and the water. Boating was one of his main passions, so much that he completed the US Power Squadron AP course and Radio & Tech Officer training. He was an active member of the Sandusky Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Trustees. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends, loved the outdoors and working on ‘the farm' at home.
‘Family' was Bob's favorite expression and he lived by it. He passed on his passion for life, people and the outdoors to both family and friends. His community service included Boy Scout leadership; Erie MetroParks volunteer, and lay reading at Christ Episcopal Church in Huron where he served on the vestry. He occasionally participated in sermons on Put-in-Bay.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sue of Sandusky; daughter, Beth and her husband, Andy Short of Roxboro, NC; son, Steve and his wife, Kimmy Stockdale of Aurora, OH; daughter, Karen and her husband, Greg Herold of Findlay, OH and eight grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Tom and his parents, Herold and Elizabeth (Smith) Stockdale.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements,
