Lois Christine (Pietschman) Brickley

Lois Christine (Pietschman) Brickley, 96, of Sandusky, passed away Tuesday evening, October 13, 2020 at the Commons of Providence.

She was born on August 24, 1924 in Sandusky, OH, the 4th daughter of 6 daughters on August 24, 1924, in Sandusky, OH to the late Frank and Christine (Black) Pietschman.

Lois graduated from Sandusky High School in 1942 and received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1945. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

She married Raymond Brickley on December 19, 1948. During the time that Ray was Principal of Sandusky High School, Lois enjoyed accompanying him to SHS sporting, musical, and cultural activities.

Following her graduation from BGSU, Lois taught art in the Sandusky City Schools. Lois instilled the love of art to many elementary students in Sandusky. She retired from teaching to become the 4th generation owner of Pietschman Shoe Store, which was founded in 1865. In 1994 Lois and Ray made the decision to close the shoe store in order to spend more time enjoying their family, their condo on Lido Beach in Sarasota, FL and the family home on Middle Bass Island.

Lois was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sandusky, P.E.O Sisterhood Chapter of Sandusky, Sandusky College Women's Club, the Middle Bass Club, the Pot Luck Group, and a former member of the Sandusky Yacht Club and Middle Bass Island Yacht Club. Lois was rarely seen without knitting needles in her hands, often knitting for charity. She knit hats, mittens, baby blankets, and baby sweaters for newborns and chemo-caps, all being donated to the greater Sandusky area. Her hand knit Santa Christmas stockings are and will always be cherished by generations of her family members.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Brian) Reed of North Royalton, OH; her grandsons, Bradley (Ashley) Reed of Sandusky, OH and Brenton (Kelsey) Reed of Orlando, FL; great-granddaughter, Amelia Reed and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Including her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and her sisters, Mildred McCrystal, Ruth Steuk, Grace Robertson, Mary Alice Appell, and Martha Flippen.

Special thanks to the caregivers and staff at the Commons of Providence Assisted Living Facility for their kindness and care during the past several years.
