Ray Alfred Thom, 84, of Castalia, passed away early Monday morning, October 19, 2020 in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Sandusky on April 23, 1936 to the late Alfred and Jane (Starks) Thom.
A 1954 graduate of Sandusky High School, Ray worked for Ford Motor Co. for 16 years, retiring on March 22, 1972. He then began his career in home building, building many homes in our area.
Ray was President of the Home Builders Association of Erie County, 1977 and 1997. He also served as Director and Life Director. In 2002 Ray received the Erie Regional Planning Commission Service Award.
He was a member of the Castalia Lions Club for over 30 years, serving as President and also received the Melvin Jones Fellow Lions International Foundation Award.
A loving family man, Ray will be missed by his wife, Shirley (Kochensparger) Thom, whom he married on August 27, 1955; sons, Ray Allen (Pam Wikel) Thom and Scott (Candy Puma) Thom; daughter, Jane (Randy) Mapus; grandchildren, Matthew Mapus, James (Hannah) Mapus, and Juliana (Brad) Clark; great-grandchildren, Caitlynn, Grace, Claire, Brynn, and Evan Mapus, and Lillian, Paige, Noah Ray, and Ellie Clark; sister, Edna May (Gerald) LeBarre; and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private, family services will be held at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Deacon Phil Dinovo will officiate and burial will take place in Castalia Cemetery.
