Ronald V. Smith, 73, residing in Huron, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 28, 2020 at home following a lengthy illness.
Ron was born on March 9, 1947 in Sandusky, OH to the late Vincent M. and Stella B. (Kuzma) Smith.
Ron was a 1965 Huron High School Graduate and retired from New Departure Hyatt as a pipefitter/plumber after 31 years of service.
In 1998, Ron received a kidney transplant, which gave him 22 additional years to enjoy his family, friends and the things he loved to do, including service to his church and his hobbies.
Ron was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he sang in the funeral and parish choirs for many years; he was also a member of the Firelands Chorus, the Bayside singers, U.A.W Local #913 and the former I.A.B. Club. Ron was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, enjoyed woodworking and family, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia (Emmert), whom he married on May 15, 1999; four children, Tamara Smith Humphrey of Sandusky, Jennifer Smith Capizzi of Huron, Jeff Smith of Sandusky, and Tim (Sarah) Smith of Ahmerst, OH; three step-children, Laura Griffith of Cleveland; Lisa Seifert of Strongsville and Scott (Beth) Jensen of Lima; 19 grandchildren, Tyler and William Humphrey, Jaron, Aniya and Sebastian Smith, Peyton, Trace and Autumn Smith, Michael, Emily and Matthew Capizzi, Sam and Zoe Drvenkar, Lily and Lona Seifert, Cory and Lucas Griffith, and Carter and Kennedy Jensen; 2 great-grandchildren, Carter and Riley; two sisters, Rita (Gerald) Thompson of Huron and Karen (John) Kijinski of Fredonia, NY and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave. Sandusky. Father Zach Brown will officiate. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
