Nancy Jean Grathwol

Nancy Jean Grathwol, 84, of Sandusky, passed away November 26, 2020, at The Meadows at Osborn Park, following a yearlong battle with cancer.

She was born June 24, 1936 in Sandusky, to the late Willard and Virginia (Schmidt) Grathwol.

Nancy graduated from Sandusky High School in 1954 and Capital Airlines and Delta Airlines Training Schools. Following travel school, she became a co-owner of Sandusky Travel Service. She traveled throughout the world including all 50 states, territories and six continents. After her retirement, she moved to Sarasota FL and taught at the Sarasota Travel School where she instilled the love for travel in her students. Returning to Sandusky, she joined the AAA Travel Agency. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and golf.

Nancy was an avid Cleveland Indians fan having joined Rick Manning on five "On Deck with the Indians" cruises, held season tickets at the old Municipal Stadium, missed very few home games and has a myriad of their memorabilia.

Nancy was a great baker and shares with family and friends, the best assortment of Christmas cookies from her great grandmother's German recipes.

She was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school, volunteered on the SOS Committee and church dinners. She was a member of OGS, Erie County Chapter and the First Families of Erie County Lineage Society; the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) and a life member of the Erie County Democratic Women.

Nancy is survived by two sisters, Janis Grathwol Burke, Sandusky, with whom she made her home, and Marleen (Daryle) Maag, Mesa AZ; nephew William (Tracy) Maag, Fort Wayne IND; great nieces Shannon (Ron) Brown, Thompson ND and Kendra Maag, Indianapolis IND. Cousins; Brenda (Jack) Kelz, Mentor OH, Diana (Will) Adamovich, Atlanta GA, Linda (Terry) Lewis, Dawn (Jim) Barnum, Kevin (Christie) Ferback, all of Sandusky; Steve (Angie) Ferback, Albert (Sandra) Grathwol, Richard (Sherie) Grathwol, Barbara Grathwol Bennett, Judy (Al) Good and other relatives and friends.

Including her parents, Willard and Virginia (Schmidt) Grathwol, Nancy was preceded in death by her grandparents William and Lina (Stookey) Grathwol and Henry and Lizzie (Schaefer) Schmidt; brother-in-law Gary Burke; cousins Lynne (Grathwol) Stedman, Ed Moser and cousin and best friend Carol Ferback Steensen.
Special thank you to her caregivers and staff at The Meadows at Osborn Park and Stein Hospice for their kindness and care during the past several months.

Friends may call Friday, December 4th from 10 am until time of service at 11 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Robb Patton will officiate. Burial will be in the Schmidt Family plot in Oakland Cemetery. Please respect the social distancing recommendations and mask mandate while in attendance.
