Donald D. Druckenmiller, 86, of Sandusky, died Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012 in the Great Lakes Transitional Care Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.
He was born October 6, 1925 in Fremont, Ohio and was a 1943 graduate of Fremont High School. Don then graduated from Bowling Green State University, received his Masters from Western Reserve University, and continued his education at the University of Toledo. He was employed by the Sandusky City Schools for 35 years, retiring in 1984, as the principle of Jackson Jr. High. Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky, where he had served on the vestry, was a bible study leader, and a Sunday School teacher and mentor for Confirmation students. He also coordinated church services on the Emerald Empress for 6 years. He served on the board at the Betty Rinderle School, the Sandusky Zoning Board of Appeals, Red Cross Disaster Team for Jackson Jr. High, member of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, the Heart Association, and New Horizon Youth Ministries, and a long time member and past president of the Sandusky Kiwanis Club. His hobbies included golf, bowling, cross word puzzles, repairing clocks, gardening, and spending much time after retirement keeping up the farm properties, but his favorite was spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Pauline C. Russell, one daughter: Susan (Eric) Wentz of Medina, three grandchildren: Joshua W. Sherman, Malachi T. (Kayte) Sherman and Kellin S. Sherman, three nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William E. & Ruth (Bower) Druckenmiller, one son: Daniel D. Druckenmiller in 1980, two sisters: Mayola (Raymond) Dorr and Lucille (Paul) Atkinson.
Friends may call today (Saturday), January 7, 2012 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home,. Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Friends may also call Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 1:30 PM until time of funeral service at 3:00 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. John B. Mawhirter will officiate. Graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 9, 2012 in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Groton Township.
