Arthalea "Arty" Ellen Benkey, 80, Sandusky, died peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2012 surrounded by her family and loved ones in Parkview Healthcare Center, Sandusky.
She was born on April 30, 1931 in Grafton, West Virginia to the late William and Addie (Hebb) McGee, and was always considered a ‘tom-boy'.
She married Glen Weaver and raised their children, Randy and Brenda. Arty loved her family, friends, and memories from West Virginia. Arty and her children moved to Sandusky to be closer to her sister Leola and her children, Bill, Bob, Belinda, and Jodi. Arty later married Bob Benkey, and even though they divorced, remained a loving mother to Shannon Guerra and Sheldon Benkey.
Arty worked at Foster Grant, Penney's, and then retired from the Ford/UAW plant. She enjoyed her retirement most, and the comforts of her home. Arty was a generous person and enjoyed helping others that were in need, making an impact on everyone that she met. She always made her family a priority.
Arty is survived by her sister, Leola Lauer; son, Randy Weaver; daughter, Brenda (Mike Cullen) Weaver; daughter, Shannon (Jerry) Guerra; and son, Sheldon (Lisa) Benkey, all of Sandusky. Arty cherished her grandchildren, Addie Weaver of Dayton, Kelsey Cullen, Deena and Mitchell Benkey, all of Sandusky, Jessica (Mark) Tinus of Hoboken, New Jersey, Emily Guerra and Jennifer (David) Rieck, all of Columbus. Her great-grandchildren, Gavin and Mason Rieck, held an extra special place in her heart. Arty had many special friends, some including, Elaine and Rick Graham, Evelyn Lake, Louise Williams, and Navylee Reel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Addie (Hebb) McGee; and her older brothers, Chase McGee and Harmon McGee.
