Allan Lynn Ringel

Allan Lynn Ringel, 74, residing in Huron, passed away Saturday morning, December 19, 2020 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.

Allan was born on September 30, 1946 in Sandusky.

He was a 1965 graduate of Perkins High school and went to the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. His career began at New Departure Hyatt in 1967, starting in the Model Shop, which designed at tested prototype ball bearings. He then went on to earn an associate degree in drafting and his journeyman card as a tinsmith. As a member of UAW Local 913, he retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. Following his retirement from GM, Allan then earned his CDL license, driving for many years with various companies before a back injury forced him once again to leave the workforce.

Allan had a passion for automobiles in every aspect, working in a body shop thru high school; restoring and collecting cars; working as a car salesman; and racing a modified stock car at Norwalk Drag Strip, with his wife as the pit crew. He often said the only reason he married her was she knew the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver. He also loved boating and traveling with his wife and daughter, better known as "The Girls". The "new-to-do" adventures with The Girls took him all over the United States, as well as many cruises. His favorite was a three-week family trip to Hawaii, a gift from his daughter for their 40th wedding anniversary.

Allan is survived by his wife, the former Gale Schemenauer, whom he married on April 12, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Theodore Stellhorn; his daughter, Valerie Ringel of Amherst, and special friend, Bill Tracht, whom he greatly admired for his talents of restoring cars.

Allan is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Lois (Russell) and Wayne Gallagher; his grandparents, Harry and Catherine Russell; his in-laws, George and Maybelle Schemenauer and his beloved furever schnauzer, Reginald (Reggie) Von Ringel.

Private family services will be held in the Chapel Mausoleum at Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2602 Bogart Rd., Huron. Pastor Eric Bodenstab of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow immediately after services. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Sandusky Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Merry Go Round Museum, 301 Jackson St., Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
