Victor "Vic" A. Girard

Victor "Vic" A. Girard, 100, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday morning, January 4, 2021 at Parkvue Health Care Center following a brief illness.

Vic was born on February 26, 1920 in Cleveland, OH to the late Victor Aubry and Ivy (Green) Girard.

Vic graduated from Margaretta High School, where he set the 100 Yard Dash Record in 1936 with a time of 10.0 seconds. He was a staff sergeant in US Navy from 1940 to 1945 stationed in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Farenholt. Vic and his wife, Betty, were married while he was in the Navy. He came back to Sandusky and became a supervisor for GM, where he retired from after 32 years of service. Vic was inducted into the Margaretta Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a member of the VFW #2529, American Legion Post 83 and a very active member of the Erie County Senior Center. Vic was an avid golfer and member of the Senior Golf League at Thunderbird, enjoyed bowling and vacationing with his family at Myrtle Beach.

Vic is survived by his son, Jack (Dorothy) Girard of Sandusky; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer (Andy) Gehrlein of Shaker Heights, OH, Jason A. (Amber) Girard of VT, and Jonathan L. Girard of Sandusky; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Vic is preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Girard and daughter, Phyllis A. Goretzki.

A private family funeral service will be held at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate. Burial will be held in Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky.
