Richard A. Decker, 84, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
Richard was born on March 18, 1936 in Hoytville, OH to the late Albertus David and Anita Mae (Richard) Decker.
Richard graduated from Sandusky High School in 1954. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force who proudly served his country from 1957 to 1961. Richard, along with his father and brother, built the Sandusky Speedway and then became owner and operator following his military service. He was also owner and operator of Crane Rental Service for over 25 years. Richard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sandusky, NRA, Ohio Gun Collectors Association, the Masonic Lodge, Zenobia Shriners, and was a part-time Erie County Auxillary Sheriff. He was also a large supporter of the speedway, and loved coffee and conversation at the shop.
Richard is survived by his sister-in-law, Sharon Decker of Vermilion; nephew, Dan Decker of Huron, OH; niece, Lisa Decker of Worthington, OH; great-nephews, Josh (Dana) Decker of Vermilion, OH, Justin (Tiffany) Decker of Sandusky and Carson Rank of Worthington, OH; great-nieces, Gigi Rank of Worthington, OH, Summer (John) Poe of GA and Autumn Decker of GA.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Caryl Jean (Olmstead) Decker; son, Richard "Ricky" Decker; daughter, Joan Decker; brother, Keith Decker; and nephew, David Decker.
Friends may call on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 10:00 am Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Pastor Stacy Lauer-Scovanner will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
