George Anthony Thomson

George Anthony Thomson, 91, residing in Sandusky, suddenly passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Firelands Regional Medical Center from a non-covid related illness.

Tony was born on June 10, 1929 in Scotland to the late Antonio Georgio and Catherine (Thomson) Franchi.

Tony was a Veteran of the US Army. Over his working years in life, Tony did PR for Cedar Point, he was a reporter for the Plain Dealer and Lorain Journal, he was the city editor for the Sandusky Register, was a radio announcer at WEOL in Elyria and sold yachts for Marina Del Rey CA. Tony enjoyed reading, fishing and boating. He was an avid tennis player and loved spending time with his best friend, a yellow lab, Jax.

Thanks to the loving care of his daughter, Sue, he was able to move from California back home to spend time with his family.

Tony is survived by his former wife and friend, Shirley Cassidy of Sandusky; daughters, Bev (David) McGuire and Susan Moore both of Sandusky; sons, Scott (Jodie) Thomson of Sandusky and Bruce (Angela) Thomson of Sylvania; grandchildren, Lori (Chris) Harris, Alex (Sarah) Thomson, Drew Moore, Abbey (Chris) Campanelli, Taylor (Eric) Jones, Justin and Anthony Thomson and 7 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by his son, Tony Thomson; sister, Phyllis Scott and first wife, Donna.

Private family services will be held. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
