Herald L. "Hal" "Red" Hoerig, 84, Sandusky, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2011, in New Life Hospice of St. Joseph , Lorain.
He was born on November 29, 1927 in Tiffin, OH to the late Carl and Ruth (Bish) Hoerig. Hal graduated in 1946 from Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Heidelberg College.
He retired from the George Worthington Co. in Cleveland after 27 years and owned Fruth Hardware Co. in Fostoria, OH until 1993.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Union Corners, Sandusky, and life member of the Elks, Masons, and Zenobia Shrine.
He is survived by his son, Craig (Julie) Hoerig, Vermilion, OH; step-daughter, Becky England, Canal Winchester, OH; beloved grandchildren, Ian, Luke, Chloe, and Bryce; brother, James Hoerig, South Lyon, MI; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death in 1983 by his first wife, Ruby (Foote) Hoerig, whom he married in 1950 ; his second wife, Marjorie (Zorn, England) Hoerig, in 2008, whom he married in 1984; parents; and brothers, Melvin, William, Charles and Jerry.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2011, at 11 A.M. in St. John Lutheran Church, 106 Scheid Rd., Sandusky. Rev. William Hlavin will officiate.
