Helena Marie (Porter) Aldridge

Helena Marie (Porter) Aldridge, 91, Sandusky, met her Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on Thursday, January 21st at 10:30pm at Firelands Hospital surrounded by children and grandchildren.

She was born on May 15th, 1929 in Bladen, Ohio to William and Edith Mae Porter then she was born again on May 15th, 1960 - her 31st birthday - at Sandusky First Assembly of God which became Faith Memorial Church and is now known as Faith Church.

Helena had been a charter member of Faith Church for 60 years and taught Sunday School for 50 of those years. She taught the first and second graders how much Jesus loved them by showing His love to each child that walked into her classroom with a smile and a hug. Jesus was first in her life and she lived by the verse "those who are forgiven much, love much" (Luke 7:47). She would be the first to tell you that she was not perfect - she was far from it - but she was loved by a perfect God and wanted everyone to know Him. As a teenager, she had to drop out of school to support herself and her son, but she later received her GED at the age of 50 from Sandusky High School.

On a personal note, she met the love of her life, Isaac E. Aldridge Sr. (Curly), at a dance and they eloped on Christmas Day in 1953 and as Curly always said, "they've been dancing ever since". She was the proud mother to William (Bill) M Porter Sr (Debbie), Deborah (Debe) K Buzard (Ted), Isaac (Ed) E Aldridge Jr. (Helen), and Kevon (Jamie) J Aldridge (Chrissy).

She is survived by her four children and their spouses; brothers, Waldo (Carolyn) and James (Judy) Porter; grandchildren, Lisa (Greg), Bill Jr. (Michelle), Nicole (Keith), Tricia (Tyrone), Amanda (Cory), Gideon, Libby (Josh), Kendra (Brian) Isaac (Eddie) III (Nicole), Christopher (Sara), and Corey (Morgan); step-grandchildren, Christee, Tiffany, and Steven; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kayla (Alex), William III (Jorden), Hayley, Marcquez, Ryan, Tiara, Taylor, Tymir, Meadow, Hadyn, Amelia, Anna, Will, Isaac IV, Kallie, Alena, Sienna, Edie, Ezra, Evan, and Clifford (due any day); step-great-grandchildren, Josh, Oliver, and Maison; great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Ava, Ellie, and another due in May; and countless nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, William; sisters, Katherine King, Daisy Jeffers, Dorothy Barcus, and Janice Arata; granddaughter, Jessica Dancison; and her very best friend, Joan Garlock.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27th from 6-9pm at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave. Sandusky. Additional visitation will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 28th at Faith Church, 1320 E. Strub Rd. Sandusky, with the Funeral Service to follow at 12pm. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Harry J (Bud) Vaughn and Rev. Kenneth Hiser will officate. COVID guidelines will be expected to be followed at all services.

Memorial contributions can be made to Faith Church's BGMC Fund as Mom's heart was that every child would come to know Jesus and His love.
