Jeanne L. (Harple) Schaefer

Jeanne L. (Harple) Schaefer, 91, residing in Sandusky, passed away surrounded by her family Sunday evening, January 24, 2021 following a long battle with Dementia.

Jeanne was born on September 14, 1929 in Sandusky, OH to the late James and Agnes (Tucker) Harple. She attended Sandusky High School and married Raymond Julian Schaefer on February 15, 1947.

Jeanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a former member of the St. Mary's Altar & Rosary Society. She volunteered at St. Mary's school as a cafeteria worker. For many years, she was the secretary and book keeper for Raymond J. Schaefer Construction, Inc. She golfed and bowled in a couple of women's leagues. Jeanne loved transporting her sons, and their friends to Little League games and Golf tournaments. She loved cheering on her sons and grandchildren at school and sporting events such as baseball, football, basketball, golf, tennis, soccer and swim meets.

She and her husband traveled to and enjoyed many places. In the Canadian Rockies, the couple took a helicopter ride up to explore a glacier. They spent a week camping under the stars and rafting down the Colorado River. They enjoyed fishing and spending a week along with friends, Frank and Kathy Parzynski and staying in a cabin on a remote lake in Northern Canada. There was the Gulf of Mexico cruise, where the ship was stuck on a sandbar for a couple of days; it was a news story on National TV.

Jeanne was a "die hard" Buckeyes Browns and Indians fan and loved going to a World Series Game in Cleveland, Rose and Sugar Bowls and many, many other games and events. On her 70th birthday in 1999 she was viewed on a Cleveland TV Station kicking field goals in the Muni-Lot. For many years, Jeanne and Ray enjoyed winters in Marco Island, FL. In the summers, she loved going to Kelleys Island via their boat "Short People" and spending the weekends especially when she would take their grandkids.

Jeanne was a music lover and enjoyed seeing Elvis in Las Vegas, Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, Josh Grobin and the Trans Siberian Orchestra at the Q in Cleveland.

She lived a full life. She will probably give Heaven a run for its money!

Jeanne is survived by her sons, Gary A. (Faye) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Anthony "Tony" H. III (Anne Lamb) of Sandusky; sister, Elizabeth Harple Warrens; grandchildren, Kelley (Eric) Hoellrich, Derek (Dawn) Schaefer, Anthony Henry Schaefer IV, Raymond S. (Kristi) Schaefer, Gary A. (Cathy) Schaefer Jr., Steve (Kimberly) Schaefer, Leslie (Al) Arida and Tracy (Shallon) Schaefer; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diane Schaefer; daughter-in-law and former caregiver, Jenny LaRose Schaefer; her devoted caregivers, Dayle Erne and Fran Greer; she was known to her many nieces and nephews as "Aunt Shorty" and her granddogs, Bella Chick and Daisy Schaefer.

In addition to her parents, Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on August 20, 2010; eldest son, Raymond Anthony Schaefer inn 1973; sisters, Arlene Bertoch, Margaret Coffeey and Lou Zech and her brothers, James, Robert "Red", Don "Tiny", Gilbert "Bill" and Charles "Jiggs" Harple.

A private prayer service will be held at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky followed by a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky.
