Carl D. "Doug" Blanton, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, February 25, 2021 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Carl was born on February 1, 1933 in Coeburn, VA to the late Viola (Blanton) Gingo.
Carl received his Associate's Degree in Labor Relations from the University of Toledo. He retired from J.H. Routh Packing Company in 1988 after 33 years of service as their sausage maker, and had formerly worked for the Medusa Cement plant in Bayview. Carl was a member of the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky Elks #285, VFW 2529 and the former IAB Club. He enjoyed tinkering with his cars, attending car shows, smoking his pipe, antiquing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Carl is survived by his children, Scott (Penney) Blanton, Sherry Porter and Steven (Pattie Howell) Blanton; grandchildren, Jeff (Kristin) Blanton, Kelli (Aaron) Link, Holly, T.J. (Kelly) and Derrick Blanton, Katie and Kyler Porter, Shawn Ryan, Ashley Beddow, Matt (Lisa) Turner and Jaret Steele; great-grandchildren, Macy, Cade, Chace, Graden, Stone, Baela, Axton, Baylor, Rolan, Peyton, Hudson, Piper and Teagan; brother-in-law, Thomas (Trudy) Pusateri Jr; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Steve) Puckrin and Todd (Judy) Pusateri; special friend, Judy Knudsen and numerous other relatives, including his neighborhood family.
In addition to his mother, Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Margrette "Peg" (Pusateri) Blanton in 2015; son, Gerald Thomas Blanton in 1986 and son-in-law, Keith Porter in 2015.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 10:00 am until the time of the celebration of life at 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Following Carl's service, everyone is invited to the Legacy Center, 1522 E. Perkins Ave. to continue with food and fellowship.
