Roger L. Schippel

Roger L. Schippel, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, March 1, 2021 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Roger was born on October 27, 1933 in Sandusky, OH to the late Wilson and Marie (Good) Schippel.

Roger was a U.S Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne Division serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1992 after 38 years of service as a truck driver working with Yellow Freight, Commercial, Lovelace, Ace and Elmer Borchardt Trucking Services. Roger was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW 2529, American Legion Post 83 and the Teamsters Local 20. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering, working on small engines, boating and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife, Nancy (Mischler) Schippel, whom he married on October 9, 1950. He is also survived by his 2 daughters, Donna (Dale) Casper of St. Petersburg, FL and Shirley Voight of Sandusky; son, Roy Schippel of Sandusky; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Spieth of Canton and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his sons, Roger "Rick" and William "Bill" Schippel; sisters, Helen Nickels, Virginia Bores, Isabelle Witter, Verona Bloomquist and Lois Geiger; brothers, Lester, Richard and Donald Schippel and son-in-law, Ralph Voight.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 10:00 am. Deacon Phil Dinovo will officiate. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
